Portland police recently displayed the amount of weed that is legal for possession on a person, according to newly established Oregon marijuana laws, using Voodoo Doughnuts, one of Oregon’s most popular munchies. Starting this week, marijuana is legal for growing, using, and sharing in the state of Oregon with quantity limitations. However, dispensaries are not opening until the fall.
The new law allows anyone over the age of 21 to possess up to one ounce of cannabis without having to worry about arrest. But, the amount can be difficult for some people to visualize, and this is one of the reasons why the Portland police published the visual aid along with other helpful information.
Portland police displayed the image on their blog
In a very courteous and well-written blog post, Portland police displayed the humorous image along with an overview of the new law and its requirements in the state of Oregon. Aside from the picture, the post had a somewhat serious tone as police reaffirmed the dangers of driving under the influence of marijuana and that they would continue to focus on preventing DUIs (Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants) as the new Oregon marijuana laws go into effect.
The police also covered other important details about Oregon marijuana Laws
The Portland police also discussed other important details regarding the new law in the blog post. They mentioned that transporting marijuana across state lines would remain illegal by federal law (such as transporting marijuana to and from Washington state where marijuana is also legal).
They mentioned that those who would risk this are violating federal drug laws which may have severe criminal penalties. Also, the police mentioned that possession of over one ounce in public would possibly result in arrest, and that using marijuana in a public place would continue to remain a crime that can result in a citation.
How much weed can you carry in Oregon now?
The picture conveniently shows that the approximate amount of weed that you can carry on your person is about the size of a Voodoo Doughnut. The amount that you can keep in your home is substantially larger, eight times to be exact. In the photo of the legal household amount, the doughnut looks like it could swim in the pile of weed sitting next to it.
Finally, a pound of weed is shown which totally dwarfs the Voodoo Doughnut with the clear designation of ILLEGAL in the caption. One pound of marijuana is 16 ounces which is twice the allowable household amount.
Regardless of the quantity limitations, the new marijuana regulation laws in Oregon are truly reasonable and the police even mention on the blog that people shouldn’t call them about public marijuana use or smoke related complaints unless there is a legitimate emergency related reason.
